2017, a year of technology, health and innovation
There are nearly 60 shows and congresses scheduled in the trade fair calendar for 2017. There are international events which will be the showcase for the latest trends in mobile communications, technology, bridal fashion, the automobile industry, chemicals, business travel and smart cities, and many more in the health sector.
The 5 main fairs in the year:
1. The mobile communications giant
Mobile World Congress is the world’s most important congress for mobile communications and returns for its annual appointment with the latest ideas from the industry. It will attract over 2,200 companies, and 100,000 professionals from over 204 countries. It will be held together with another edition of 4YFN, the event for entrepreneurs in mobile technology, and YoMo, the first event in the mobile sector for the young.
2. Bridal Universe
A reference event for the wedding fashion sector. Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week features a catwalk where the best collections of bridal wear will be shown, and an exhibition area with over 200 major names in fashion for bride and groom, events and ceremonies.
3. The new Car Show
2017 will see the Salón del Automóvil enter a new phase as Automobile Barcelona. As the main event for the motor industry in Spain, it will focus on technology, mobility and the unveiling of new products by the main manufacturers.
4. Where the future of cities is discussed
Smart City Expo World Congress is the global summit where the latest developments for making cities smarter and more sustainable are presented, with a special emphasis on mobility, technology, energy efficiency, the environment, demographic management, urban planning and the knowledge economy.
5. A reference for the chemical industry
The World Chemical Summit is the most important international platform for the applied chemical industry, bringing the fairs Expoquimia, Equiplast, Eurosurfas, with over 700 exhibitors, together in one event. In 2017 it will coincide with the World Congress on Chemical Engineering.
The calendar for 2017 includes a number of shows and events that will attract the attention of fans of computer games (Barcelona Games World), motorbikes (Motoh!), comics and Japanese animation (Salón del Cómic and Salón del Manga), experiences for travellers (B-Travel), electronic music (Sónar) and Do it Yourself (Handmade Festival), among many others.
Fira, at the “heart” of medical events
Fira de Barcelona is placing even more emphasis on attracting major international events in the field of medicine in 2017.
The most outstanding event of this year is surely the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) at the Gran Via site, the most important event in the world for this specialization, with the presence of more than 30,000 medical professionals from 150 countries and the presentation of 500 scientific sessions and 11,000 abstracts with the latest clinical trials and discoveries.
Fira and Barcelona already hosted European congresses on cardiology in 1992, 1999, 2009 and 2014, and the World Congress in 2006.
Besides the ESC, 2017 will also see other congresses in the field of healthcare such as those organized by the European Burns Association and Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology.
