Fira de Barcelona, which makes a significant financial and social contribution to its home region, is also making a clear effort to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in the framework of the Agenda 2030, a plan of the international community that aims to transform the world, eliminate poverty, fight climate change and reduce inequality.
The Agenda 2030 was signed by 193 UN member countries in 2015 and set out 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 associated measures that cover all social, economic and environmental aspects.
Fira de Barcelona is committed to making the SDG a factor of internal cohesion and coordination and external competitiveness. They have been included in the Strategic Plan as a key part of shared responsibility in relation with quality of life, wellbeing and prosperity for present and future generations.
One specific display of this commitment was shown in 2019 with a number of actions carried out in the shows, like the Towards Zero Waste initiative started by Smart City Expo World Congress and Piscina & Wellness, among other events, to reduce the amount of waste and to promote efficient use of resources. It was also present in the collaboration with the Donation Room initiative created by GSMA, organizer of the Mobile World Congress, and adopted by other shows.
It is logical, therefore, that our corporate seasonal greetings that wish for peace, brotherhood and goodwill should also include this inescapable commitment.
