virtual fairNew technology, social media, mobile devices and connected appliances have been with us for some time now. It no longer comes as a surprise for people to shop for clothes, book flights or a hotel room with their phones, get news from around the world or turn on their home central heating the same way.

Digitalization is a fact of life now, although its reach is not the same everywhere. Sectors like fashion, audio-visual content or tourism have been reaping the benefits of technology for many years, but progress in others, such as healthcare, education or industry, has been much slower.

The same could be said of trade fairs, where the expectation of personal attendance has made it hard for new virtual technologies to penetrate. Until now, that is.

The Education and Future Fair from home

Fira de Barcelona has set up its first ever 100% virtual trade fair. It is the FiraCampusVirtual, which combines the education fair Saló de l’Ensenyament and Futura, which was affected by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

From 20 to 24 May, students who are deciding between university degrees, diplomas, sixth-form colleges or even between masters and post-graduate studies are invited to the FiraCampusVirtual. More than 150 exhibitors, including universities, vocational training centres, sixth-form colleges, secondary schools, art schools and language academies will present their courses for 2020-21.

Students will be able to use their smartphones, tablets and computers to access the platform www.firacampusvirtual.com: they will be able to make a simulated visit to the exhibition halls of Montjuïc and make agile interactive stops at the stands of the education centres taking part. Clicking on any of them will bring up a virtual noticeboard where they will find information about the centre, what they offer, new courses, informative videos, documents to download and links of interest.

FiraCampusVirtual is boosting this orientation service with over 1500 scheduled videocalls, webinars and chats. There is a team of more than 400 professionals ready to offer individual or collective guidance to the students who request it, to resolve their doubts and help them choose their future studies. Besides all this, the virtual fair will maintain a channel for consultation open for the next two months to handle any further enquiries.
