This Indian-American designer is one of the stars of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week (BBFW) –which will be held between April 26th and May 1st at the Montjuïc site. The presence of the Israeli Galia Lahav underlines the cosmopolitan nature of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, joining the major companies who will be showing their creations for the forthcoming spring/summer season 2017.

Khan’s traditions
Born in Bombay and residing in New York, Naeem Khan is a member of a family of clothing craftsmen who created the clothes for the nobility of India. He came to the United States at a young age, and was an apprentice under the designer Halston, who created many of the outfits worn by Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Silvana Mangano and Lizza Minnelli.

Galia_2In 2008 he was made a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America, CFDA. Today, the bridal collections of Naeem Khan are sold in over a hundred outlets around the world, in luxury goods and stores and high fashion boutiques such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman or Saks Fifth Avenue.

A Hollywood Designer
Another outstanding feature of this edition is the presence of Galia Lahav, one of the most prestigious names in the world of fashion, specializing in bridal wear and evening gowns, with her urban and romantic “N.2 of GALA by Galia Lahav” collection. In her 30 years of activity, Galia, the designer and founder of the company, has dressed many of the stars of Hollywood, such as Jennifer Lopez, the Australian model Dani Lawrence or the singer Jana Kramer, either for the altar or the red carpet.

The designer, who was born in Russia but lives in Tel Aviv (Israel), has over 40 sales outlets around the globe. Her highly personal creations combine her unique style with the latest trends and touches of extravagant luxury .

A focus on international expansion

With 260 brands lined up from 18 different countries, almost 60% of which are foreign, BBFW is continuing its strategy of reaching out to designers, but also to buyers, critics and distributors from the United States – without doubt one of the strongest markets and drivers of global trends – and other countries such as Germany, Great Britain or Italy, which also have enormous sales potential for the salon’s exhibitors.

“For the moment” –says Estermaria Laruccia, director of the event- “we are focusing on the United States and Western Europe to consolidate our position in these key areas for bridal fashion, but we do plan to extend our area of interest to other countries in accordance with the demands of the sector”. She adds that “our target is to make Barcelona the international capital of bridal fashion”.
