2014, international fairs and leadership
In 2014 Fira de Barcelona will host a number of important events, with over 55 activities taking place, that will strengthen its position, especially with regard to industrial and professional fairs, and for major medical and technological meetings. It is a calendar that is defined by the qualities of leadership, innovation and international reach.

The debate over industry and trends will be at the forefront of the coming edition of the Mobile World Congress, from the 24th to the 27th February at the Gran Via site. The latest edition, between the 31st March and the 3rd April, is shaping up to be one of the best ever thanks to the drive towards innovation, the quality of the brands present and the alliance of gastronomy and haute cuisine. The 12 different specialised salons will bring together 3,800 businesses and 140,000 visitors, 35% of whom will come from abroad. “The Alimentaria Experience”, part of the Restaurama event, the International Congress on the Mediterranean Diet and the Innoval awards are among the many initiatives that mark Alimentaria as one of the great international fairs in this sector.
Denim clothes: Denim by Première Vision
The Denim salon, by Première Vision, arrives in Barcelona from Paris, where it has been held until now, with the intention of staying here. 4 things to bear in mind
– The scale of the medical and technological congresses: Especially important in this context is the new edition of the European Cardiology Conference – with 30,000 professionals expected to attend – and other professional congresses and meetings in the technology sector, such as the meetings of SAP and VM World, among others.
– Important itinerant events: There are major meetings and congresses that do not have a fixed venue and are held in a number of major cities. This year’s calendar of events for Fira de Barcelona includes Passenger Terminal Expo (25-27 March, technology and services for passenger terminals), Seatrade Med (Mediterranean cruises, 16-18 September) the main meetings of EWEA (European Wind Energy Association, 10-13 March) and ELA (European Lab Automation 14-15 May).
– Other dates to note down: The International Catalan Tourism Fair, the Comics Fair, International Logisitics Fair, Seafood Southern Europe, Caravaning, Manga, Sonar, etc. Nor should we forget the first edition of Handmade Festival Barcelona, following in the wake of “Do it yourself” and centred on fabrics, paper, cooking and homecrafts.
– A new international dimension: Fira will take part in the organization of the Car Show and Jewellery Fair of Qatar (February), and the Smart City of Kyoto (March), as well as the Swimming Pool Show in Moscow and Construmat- Ficons in Recife (Brazil), as well as other projects in different countries.
